  • Advice Please - BB Pods

    Hello Folks

Just podded some BB's. Was thinking of putting the pods in the bottom of large containers before compost and courgettes plants, any obvious issues?
    Cheers

Personally I'd just put them on the compost heap, but perhaps you don't have one?

      Hi Wendy

Yes I have a tumbler thingy I made from a wheelie bin but don't really use it in anger. I was thinking by adding to the containers it would add nutrients quicker?
      Cheers

I doubt it would add many nutrients over the first couple of months, it needs that sort of time period to start to rot down in a plant pot.

For no particular reason I can think of other than above, I wouldn't put the pods in the bottom of pots, normal multi-purpose would be better is my guess.

I agree which TrialAndError, by the time the pods have rotted the courgettes will be over. Compost bins used in anger - not sure about that!

I sometimes put a bit of green waste at the bottom of my tomatoes, but only because it saves a bit of compost! Give it a try Danny and see what happens

The principle of putting organic waste of various kinds under plants like beans and courgettes would be to retain moisture. When you think about it, BB pods wouldn't contain or hold much moisture. It would do no harm to do this, but you would be better in putting some wet shredded cardboard or newspaper at the base of the pot.

This year I am using all my green waste as an 'instant mulch' around the plants or on the surface of beds. Here on the surface they will rapidly rot down and provide humus, or dry in the hot sun (joke..... even here it's been miserably wet!)...
