  • morado garlic splitting!!

    My garlic is looking terrible

    Please see pictures below. THey seem to have 'exploded'...

    Any ideas whats happened????

    It almost looks like the head has split into cloves (which you want) but they then have grown (not good) have you had one up to have a looksee ?

      Did you plant the whole bulb or split into cloves before planting - there looks like several stems from one plant.

        I planted individual cloves back in November...

        binley - I have just re read your post, and now I understand what you mean!

        Yes - Now that you mention it, it is exactly like that!

          Sat in wet conditions can cause them to split early. I'd dig one up and have a look.

                      Here are some pics.

                      Looks pretty much as suspected.

                      Half of the 'bulb' has split into individual cloves (and each clove is growing), but the other half of the bulb has not.

                      THe bulb is quite small, considering that the foliage is probably almost 2ft tall!

                      THis is not good!

                          Ive never known that to happen! My overwintering onions often bolt but never garlic.
                          I'd mince it all and make lazy garlic so at least you can use it all year.

                            I might just leave it in the ground, and see what happens....

                            As the bulbs are very small.

                            Hopefully, they will get bigger!
