But cucurbit seeds don't look anything like tomato seeds. They are large and smooth.

I think these are tomatoes, although maybe not the variety they say they are. Why not let them flower and see what happens - tomato flowers are very distinctive, so they would tell you whether it is or is not a tomato.

Now there's a thought, I was going to plant some Cleome seeds but I thought I hadn't got round to it

Looking at this photo from the web the leaf form is identical. Well done Wendy - you have cracked it! Thank you so much

I have some tiny Cleome seedlings waiting to be pricked out and the leaves are rounded just like those in your first photos George. Never grown them before so didn't even think about them!
          Well spotted Wendy

It was the mention of barbs under the leaves, been caught out by them before when potting on. Shall tick it off in my "I Spy Guide to Seedlings".

It looks very much like a vine I have growing on my trellis, not sure what it is as it was my dad who put it there a long time ago, but the leaves are the same shape. Ill try and get a pic of some if I can as I cut it all down but it just keeps coming back.

Ah, here it is! I remember this xlnt thread from back in my lurking days, and I wanted to find it again because nobody answered 4390evans.

My back neighbour has a vine with similar leaves that keeps coming over my wall and invading my garden. Not only that but the birds eat the berries then sit in my trees pooping out the seeds so it springs up all over the place, and it's called Virginia Creeper.

That's probably what you've got, and it's not a plant but a monster that wants to take over the world. In my opinion it might be suitable for decorating the walls of castles and vast country estates, but it should never be planted in a normal sized garden.

It's called Virginia Creeper for a reason
