My cherry tomatoes (Vilma) are doing really well - surprisingly, the outdoor ones seem to be producing more fruit than the ones in the greenhouse.

I also got given some bush tomato plants by my neighbour's brother over Easter and they can be split into two groups. One group has formed lots of foliage but is only just producing its first flowers trusses. The other group has already got lots of fruit forming but barely any leaves!

@ChrisMath88 stick a stake in and prop up your tom; unless the stem has actually snapped through, it will be OK.

@chopper, I was wondering, is your greenhouse heated. I ask because I saw someone with a similarly impressive set of toms in theirs up here, and they'd used heat earlier in the year. Making me feel a bit better!

All I can say is my toms are alive. Have re-potted them on and seem to be doing ok. Planted a load of seeds this year and they seemed to of all germinated. Flowers look to be forming this time to.
Just wondering when is the best time to feed them?

So there is! Honestly, I did look first.

So, I've had a couple of object lessons this week in just what a bit of heat can do for you.

If you are growing in containers start after week six, if they are in the boarder start with high potash feed when the first fruit sets.

First year growing my own. Runners beans being eaten by slugs and snails! My tumbling toms are ready to go outside now...will the little beggars attack them too?

Using big 45 litre containers seems to be paying off, far less watering and the plants are thriving.
I used masking tape(its easier to remove later) when I did the same sort of thing, 12ins off ground, retied it and then wound the tape 2ins below to 2ins above the break, it sulked for 4 days then took off again, the olympe and black Russian are ahead of the other toms but all are looking good..

Slugs don't seem to attack the actual tom plant but they will eat the tomatoes.

Put your tumblers in a hanging basket on a south facing wall, they will find that a challenge

Hi, yep the greenhouse is heated as I also have quite a few chillies and peppers in there too.

I started the toms off indoors under lights late jan/early feb and repotted them 3 times as deep as I could to keep the height down. I planted them out in the greenhouse early April and the heater was only used during April as the weather has been pretty good here.. Was a lot of work to get them to this stage but I have now topped most of them and should be swamped with tomatoes soon

This is my greenhouse setup for anyone interested
