I sympathise with your situation but I am not convinced the culprit is a deer as surely everyone knows that mare's eat oats and doe's eat oats and little lambs eat ivy !
The Element of Surprise was removed from the Periodic Table in 1926.
It was identified by the symbol "Oh"

Morning folks! Well, I was at lottie very early this morning (woke at 4.45) only to discover that the rabbits are still getting through! They had eaten some 'test seedlings' that I planted in an open bed. I investigated and sure enough found a new tunnel, under a different part of the fence. But the seedlings I'd planted inside chicken mesh cages were safe, and my damaged peas and beans are regrowing safely inside their new fences too.

I blocked the new hole with a rock and seeing as how someone's dog had obliged by depositing a pile just outside my plot, transferred the doings to just outside the new burrow.

When back from hols, we will have to dig down along the entire length of that fence and put some new deeper wire down. In the meantime, a really kind co-allotmenteer gave me a batch of seedlings surplus to his requirements. I planted them out, really hoping they won't turn out to be sacrificial! Will bob down tomorrow to investigate.

Thank you BM! If you can manage to keep them crossed for the whole fortnight, you won't be able to do any work...
