Little cucs

Have lots of 'little gherkin size' cucs, ready to be planted out on Plot, any advice please? They need support I assume, canes and netting? Or I do have chicken wire ? Do they need manured ground? Can they go where I've lifted first Earlies, ( not very sunny).

Any advice appreciated, never grown these before

I have grown them on the ground in the past, no support,

I put them in a sunny spot protected from the wind by the sweetcorn and they did really well.

I did plant them in manured soil and fed them.

Anything that produces fruit (cucumbers are a fruit) needs as much sunlight as possible. If you just allow them to trail across the ground you'll have slugs to share them with so you should train them up something if you can .

I grow in raised beds about 4 foot or so across.
I made some DIY "fences" from that stout green plastic inch mesh .
Some 4 foot some 2 foot.
Used roofing spars as they are cheap.
Basically a rectangle with mesh stapled to it and some diagonals for strength.
So when I have peas or cucumbers etc I can stand them on bricks to keep off the ground and support with a few canes.
Re-use them year after year.

Roughly how many does each plant produce, any how much space, are they a bit like courgettes? I have quite a few plants.

Dig a hole, fill it with rotted manure, put the plant on top, pull the soil back around the stem so it is on a mound, make a moat around the bottom of the mound for the water to gather in. Water the whole area, squash the soil back around the stem if it has washed away. Future waterings are into the moat only, this will prevent stem rot. Put a tall cane in and tie the main stem to this as it grows

They are.- Cucumber '(Gherkin ) Cornichon de Paris' , Mr Fothergills, packet says, French heirloom producing masses of mini-sized 'cornichons'. Packet says pick when fruits are 5cm long, or can be left to grow and used as slicing 'cues'.

But the packet doesn't tell you how /where to grow, just to allow 2' , between rows. (20 seeds in pkt)

So am not really sure, on the pic on pkt, they look like gherkin.

Little cucs

These are the ones I pickle as "wallies" or pickled dill cucumbers. I pick them at about 4-5 inches long as they are good for slicing for salad at that size ( or just eating whole) and can also be pickled either sliced or , as we like them whole with a whole head of dill flowers in the bottom of the jar. Mine grow up an old bed base stood up on end or over a tunnel made from 2 garden arches side by side with netting over. I plant mine in flower buckets with the bottoms cut off to help with drainage and prevent neck rot. I reckon 25-35 cuc's per plant over a season

Sounds like I need to construct a 'something or other', will try, flower buckets I do have, and chicken wire,see what's can do!

Sounds like a good crop.
