  • Can I still sown Basil in Greenhouse

Was sick earlier in the year and the garden jobs have been set back about 3 weeks.

It's amazing how many jobs depend on other jobs, for example.
GH needs cleaning before benches/propagator go in.
Seed need sowing and growing on.
    Benches/propagator come out.
    Growbags and toms go in.

Anyway I have only just got round to sowing Basil in tubs in the greenhouse.
Do you think it's to late ?

No, you'll be fine, get it in although I always find it does better in the polytunnel borders than in pots.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

You'll be fine. Though I think Basil germinates a bit better in cooler temperatures (~15C).

You can sow basil all year round, use windowsills in winter

Plus you can pinch out the tops stand them in water until you see roots then pot them on and you've doubled your plants.

I have had no luck germinating basil (too slow for me!) so bought supermarket pot, separated into sprigs, grew on in pots before planting out.
Just about to pinch out the growing tops to make them more bushy.

                Thanks for the info.

Eventually I want to freeze batches such that I can make some nice tomato and basil sauce for on
                pasta.
I usually grow Alacanti toms and we have a freezer full of "billiard balls".
Any one got a simple recipe ?
                Thanks

OOH Bren! I didn't know that!! I've got lemon and cinnamon Basil in the cold frames which are beginning to bolt - I'm off for a quick pinch in a minute then!!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
