I was thinning my Beetroot out when I noticed this.....



Is this a catapiller? I also found a few white eggs on some of the leafs.

Definitely a larva of something looks more magotty than caterpillary though ( if that's a word)

Ha! They make a mess of the leaves of my beetroot every year, but I've never actually caught the beastie. I've also never quite worked out whether they do any real damage or whether its just aesthetic -- certainly get ok beetroot crops.

The plant needs the leaves jacob. No leaves = no root. Maybe your Beetroot had swollen before the beasties attacked.

That's obviously sensible reasoning. Maybe they just don't do enough damage to stop a reasonably healthy plant. Anyway, of the things that can go wrong on the plot these are something I've just learnt to ignore.

That said, if I ever catch the beasties they're going the same way as a greenfly...
