  • No spuds formed

Just checked spud bags with charlotte and red duke york which have been fed and watered as supposed to. There are no spuds at all in any of them. Only some very small in the teracotta pots. The question is why ? I am begining to think it is much cheaper to buy organic from the farmers market than grow your own as the cost of the seed potatos and compost to the ratio of growth is ridiculous :-(

Can't really see what a pic will tell you. No spuds are no spuds. I just thought they would have formed with around 7 containers.

I can't remember exactly but it would probably have been early or mid April

Excuse bright sunlight on Red Duke. The others have been eaten by something.

You haven't given them long enough - that's only about 8-9 weeks.

We planted our first earlies the first weekend in April into the ground after chitting them, hubby dug one plant up yesterday and got about half a kilo from it, there were lots of little potato nodules on the stem to grow bigger

you may have to wait a little longer, even first earlies take about 12 weeks to produce a worthwhile crop, maincrop take even longer, the longer you wait the larger the crop.just keep watering and wait for the haulms to start to die down for maincrop, earlies tend to start to produce a useable crop round about the time they start flowering (if your variety flowers)but you may want to wait a couple of weeks past that for them to bulk up a bit

They look like the snails have had a go at them, probably climbed up the wall and jumped on

I'm impatient with taties too - just want to see what's underground. Can't resist having a furtle around and before you can turn round, the whole row is up and I'm disappointed with what's there.
I'm trying really hard this year not to be to eager - but its really difficult
