    Hello

I stacked my tomatoes and herb plants along a lovely white house wall to get the sun and watered them when the sun went in.

They are now all scorched, especially the toms look really sad

I have now moved them all from the wall and out them into a shadier spot... it is the combination of getting too hot and.... what else??

Could be just direct strong sun when they are not used to it. It will heat up the sap within the leaves and do the damage.

Will they be ok now that I have moved them into a shadier area?

They need the warmth of the sun but try & avoid getting water on the leaves. Try standing them in water rather than watering the plant..........assuming they are in pots.

They should be ok, they'll just send out new leaves. If the stem is still alive, they'll be fine.

Oh dear... they didn't do very well so they have been resigned to the green bin They don't like any water on the leaves do they? Lesson learned!

I push plastic bottles with their bottoms cut off into the soil next to my indoor tomatoes, peppers and squashes chooklady, it helps me water the plant and avoid the leaves. But outdoors, I figure they're going to get wet if it rains anyway! It's just getting the leaves wet and then having the sun on them that's the problem with scorch I think. If you grow them again next year, maybe you could have something handy to shade them with a bit if the sun gets too hot? A piece of debris netting maybe, or even a bit of fleece to drape over them? In greenhouses people often use that white stuff on the windows to provide a bit of shade from direct sun, so I'm sure a bit of netting or lightweight fleece would help (ideally supported above the plants to avoid squashing them!). I draped debris netting over some of my squashes last year when they started to wilt really badly, and it provided just enough shade to help them perk up a bit, then I lifted it when the sun had moved round. Maybe you could find someone with some rooted 'elbows' or spare plants this year so you can have another go .
