    2 Squash Winter Crown
    1 Pumpkin Jack o Lantern
    1 Pumpkin unknown (plant swap)
    2 courgettes unknown (plant swap)
    1 squash Uchiki Kuri*
    1 courgette Nero di Milano
    1 courgette Midnight

    9 for me = 158

I love growing squashes for their sheer exuberance of growth, and for the challenge of getting a fruit up here!

I can't have too many courgettes while I've still got space in the freezer. I roast with tomatoes, onion, peppers, aubergine etc and freeze in portions for pasta sauce. I really want to try Trombocino next year. I wonder if I could get it to grow along the hedge?

*Just because I can't stop saying it's cute name!

Squashes can be tricky things up here, so...

      5 x courgettes for outside
2 x courgettes in containers in greenhouse for early crop
2 x courgettes, thinking about containering too (but there's only so much space.
3 x bush pumpkins in containers in the greenhouse
2 x squash in containers in the greenhouse (this has never worked, but I can't quite bring myself to give up)

      So let's call that 14, giving 172

          Well, I've sown
          3 baby bear squash
          3 custard white courgettes
          3 sunstripe courgettes

but outside under a cloche, and only 1 courgette seed has germinated so far. I'm expecting them to grow up tough if they actually manage to germinate

          Endless wonder.

Ok, I'm putting myself on the line and saying I don't get it? I'm growing around 15 plants. How on earth is the higher numbers being made?

I know it's Friday and I've not touched the alcohol so I must be just tired...

I only know because I figured it out in the 'how many chickens have we got?' thread.

We were up to 175 with 'out in the cold' but do we count mothawk and scarlets plants sown or only those germinated?

                    I'm growing
                    3 luffas
                    2 Black futsu
                    2 sweet dumpling
                    1 hasta la pasta
                    1 spaghetti squash
                    2 custard white courgettes
                    3 round ball courgettes
                    1 yellow crookneck summer squash

which puts me on 15 altogether.
and I'm so sorry, I don't know what the running total is!

If it helps, I'm not counting mine until they're in their final positions. I've sown lots but I don't expect to grow them all.
So I don't think we should count seedlings

I counted my potted plants - I may give away a few, but most of them will be grown on my plots. I like squashes and courgettes a LOT. Nearly as much as VC likes kale. Should I revise my numbers?

Not strictly a pumpkin or courgette, but very similar, I'm growing Achocha this year (Cyclanthera pedata) and just wondered if anyone else has grown it and whether it is worth the effort.

Amongst the others, I'm growing butternut squash 'Veenas', yellow courgette, 'Atena Polka' (Polish), Patty pan squash, Green tint and a pumpkin variety for edible seeds whose name I forget. Also squash 'Sweet dumpling' and 'sweet lightning'.

I'm running out of space so considering growing the rest of the plants in mounds covered with mulch amongst the scrub and trees in another part of the garden.. Maybe they will climb up the trees and shrubs if they are the trailing types?

4 winter squash - crown prince

They are only the ones that we've planted out so far...we still have Yugoslavian finger (summer squash), 3 varieties of cucumber, and I think 3 other winter squash varieties to find space for

                              Maybe we've over done it!

Sounds like Operation Market Garden. If you get as many courgettes as we do from that amount of plants you'll have to go to market one day to get rid.

                                4 Hokkaido pumpkin plants
4 Courgettes, cant remember the name something Italian like Piacenza

Was fed up of courgette last year so growing less plants.

Reminds me of one year we had a glut of pumpkins, bought a house and the owner had planted pumpkins everywhere for show and they all came good at once. We hadnt moved the fridge freezer out of storage by then and didnt have the time so tried to eat as many of the pumpkins as we could before they went off, it was like Forrest Gump the Bubba shrimp scene, pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, pumpkin pasta, baked pumpkin...

Didnt eat pumpkin at all the next year.
