  • Misting tomatoes

Just read, that you should 'mist/spray' your outside grown tomatoes in hot weather, haven't heard this before, is this what you would recommend?

    Thanks

I would think that it encourages blight, so wouldn't do it.

Never misted mine and they seemed to do just fine, more than harvested more than I could eat anyway.

The UK weather is damp enough!! Certainly has been today anyway!

I agree, blight is rampant in humid conditions so why give it a helping hand.

Esbo, we haven't had rain for weeks, it's so dry, we are praying for some rain here in Kent.

              Consider a move?

Sorry Bal, my rain dance worked! But it's going to be dry and sunny this afternoon, enjoy your party.

                    Hi Dorothy

I have never misted outdoor tomatoes, but I certainly have indoor ones when it is very dry. If it is not humid enough you can have a problem with tomatoes not setting, which is why it is done indoors.

I also mist my indoor plants using a Miracle Grow mix so they get a feed at the same time. Having a concrete floor in the green house I have to throw down the occasional bucket of water to.

Misting Tomatoes.I have read that misting outdoor toms with a solution of aspirin may help to prevent blight.
The suggestion is 75mg to100mg per litre of soluble aspirin. Don't know whether it helps but it comes highly recommended.I am misting my outdoor toms, when I feed them.It doesn't appear to be doing them any harm.

Water the soil instead of misting and try not to let any water get on the leaves.

Misting is a definite no as far as I am concerned. It encourages blight and other fungal diseases.
