Thanks BB, for the link to this thread. I only have 5 rounds left, whoops, but they tasted good. Might pop the last 5 in, next to the others i have got to plant, at this rate if it all grows i will have enough garlic to feed the town!I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

Lisa, mark the rounds & when you harvest them use some of the cloves as sets for the next season, over a few seasons you should end up with garlic that is ideally suited to your soil & growing conditions

Just thought I'd hang a pic of the rounds bought from Aldi (note the "twee" little basket), one was accidentally roasted and the flavour was excellent, the rest will be planted. One is already showing growth.
The other pic is the various stages of Elephant rounds, the smallest is a shelled bulbil, I've found shelling bulbils before planting is essential as the skin is so tough it can take a long time to break down. I've got little elephants coming up everywhere from bulbils mislaid over 5 years ago!Attached FilesFamily motto "semper in excretum"

Latest update from me is that indeed I did get some small cloves...I have attached a pic of a selection of the cloves that I have kept and planted in isolation from my other garlic...
So hopefully next year I will have a decent return from them and they become more naturalised...Attached FilesI dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
