Is anyone growing cornichon de Paris?

Hi all.
Is anyone growing the above gerkins? I think the seeds were free with gyo April mag.
Im a bit disappointed, but not sure if I'm expecting too much too soon especially as I'm growing outside. First time I've tried growing them.
Below are pics of my two, one in a grow bag and one in a pot. They both look healthy and have plenty of leaves but no gerkins 😒 I feed them liquid seaweed once a week.
Is there anything else I should do? Or am i doing anything wrong? Or am I just too impatient!! 😄

I'm growing these for the first time too. I've got some baby gherkins on the plants but nothing near picking yet.

Make sure you take off the male flowers,that`s the one`s with just a thin stem behind the flower,the female flowers will have a baby gherkin growing behind. Yours look healthy enough,did you start them indoors? Had 3 off one plant around 70mm and quite chubby,nothing off the other two but lots of male flowers,all started indoors but outside in pots now,others may know more as first time growing them.

Me too, I've had one or two per plant but not much growth . . . but they seem to be finally starting to put on some more leaves, they seemed to stop growing when I pinched out the growing tip, I'm hoping that with a few more leaves they will take off and produce more fruit than I can cope with.

I am growing them to, outside, and they are nothing like the size of these plants, so either you are being impatient or mine are rubbish. Yours look great, I'm envious now. Maybe I'll give them a feed.

Is anyone growing cornichon de Paris?

I have 5 of these outside over arches and mine are about 4 ft high at the moment, picked my first one today at about 4 inches. I grow these every year and they crop and pickle well. I don't remove male flowers as the females don't develop if they're not pollinated and you pick them well before seeds have formed

I've never grown these but to me 'cornichons' are very small cocktail pickles.

Mr Fothergill's seed instructions say:
Cucumber (Gherkin) Cornichon de Paris
Cucumis sativus
Perfect for pickling
This is a French heirloom variety which has long been sold in the markets of Paris and used to produce small, crisp pickled 'cornichon' gherkin.
Each plant produces numerous fruits that are harvested at approx. 2.5cm(1in) long.


So they also say pick fruit when about one inch long.

They should fruit continuously from July up to end of October.

Oops; my plant now has several cucs on it that are over 2 inches long already. I won't tell Mrs H they are supposed to be smaller, I'll just see what happens.

Well mine have grown a bit, but still not even 12 inches high! So,I'm envious of you chaps!

I found a gerkin!!
It's about an inch long and was hiding under the leaves.
Hopefully many more to come.
I may pinch them out as raptoruk has done to see if that helps (and be more patient)

Two days ago it was an inch long now it's over two inches, it seems to have grown out of nowhere!
Now I need pickling recipes 😀

They are doing better now as you can see . . . I picked 3 fruits yesterday, I thinkI will be picking them more frequently very soon . . .
