  • falling runner bean flowers

I have very healthy, lush runner bean plants with a lot of flowers. It is kept well watered in a large tub. The questions why are a lot of the flowers falling off and not forming into pods ?

That would generally mean that the bees have not fertilised them. Don't despair, they will find them eventually. I grow lavender and sweet peas close to mine

It could be a number of things Marb, have a look at this list and see if anything is recognisable:

For, there's a lot that can go wrong then. Been growing mine in the same bean trench for donkey's years and only ever worry about pollination, wish I had never read that. Luckily my poor memory will forget it

The wind over the last few days is certainly not helping. If you suffer from lack of pollinators try something like Firestorm for red beans or Moonlight for white beans both of which are self pollinating.

I grow Firestorm as a self pollinator and also White Lady which I find sets very well.

Some of my bean plants came back from last year and I added about 3 new ones. Plenty of bees in my garden as many attractive flowers for them. There is only the 2 of us so we should have ample produce even with the loss. The compost is mainly the same from last year with a bit more added on the top. I am feeding with comfry though.
