      Feeling sad sad sad

Grown moneymaker tomatoes from seeds. Novice Gardner but doing ok, or so I thought.Until today, after a hard day at work, down to my sanctuary GH, to lovingly overlook my tomatoes, only to discover plants that have looked a bit less healthy for a week or so ( they can do this I read, so didn't panic) have toms on them that we're growing, so again no need to go in a frenzie, until today when all tomatoes have developed black bottoms!! Plants and tomatoes look decidingly unhealthy . What Have I done wrong!! I have looked after them daily for past three months. Feeling very sad::

It does look very much like it VC, but I watered religiously and fed weekly ...soil always felt moist. In fact sometimes I wondered whether I had overwatered. Could I have fed too much too early?? Tomatoes were doing really well until a week ago. Good size plants and fruit.

If they are in pots plunge your hand down into the compost to check if it is moist all the way through. It is very easy to be deceived into to thinking your have watered enough because the top of the compost is wet, yet down below it is dry.

The good news is that if it is BER, providing you get the watering right new fruit will be unaffected.

I did do this when I saw plants wilting. Soil felt nice and moist all through pot. Even with extra water/ feed this last few days plants still looked wilted. Black bottoms came on only today and widespread. I really don't get it. If lack of water how come my tomatoes outside GH are doing so much better with less water as I tend to only do them every couple of days??

I have BER in one of my two African Queen tomatoes, quite odd as they have been treated exactly the same. Just noticed it on another variety as well. Good job I have 13 tommy plants.

So I was just wondering what is the best tomatoes to grow and what ones do you lot like to grow?
This year I'm growing Black Russian, Pink Brandywine, Black Krim, Sweet Baby, Gardeners Delight, Roma, Tumbling Red /Yellow & Tiger, an heirloom ( unknown variety, mix packet of heirloom seeds).
Every year I try to grow a variety I've never grown before. Black Russian is turning into a must grow every year crop ( well it has for the last 3 and I've just got more seeds)

You could always save your own seed from heritage and open pollinated tomatoes, I think all of the seeds on your list will come true from seed. Tomato seeds last for several years and you can always swap spares for varieties you don't have Not that I'm trying to encourage a seed or tomato overload

                      Thanks Poly
I didn't know if the seeds would stay true or not so I've never collected them. I will this year.
Don't worry there is no encouragement need here, I'm already overloaded with seeds & tomatoes

Just been for a rummage around in the undergrowth to find labels, I new I was growing 10 varieties I forgot Ailsa Craig
