The packet said they didnt need staking. The packet said plant 3 beans to a station. I've staked them as they looked like they may benefit. They are climbing up the stakes. Whats all that about then?

Yeh what's on your packet is bow locks. Grow exactly as for runners, pinch out the tops and just leave them alone until pods are brown and crispy in October-ish. Shell and store for winter stews, boston beans etc... YumAre y'oroight booy?Comment

There are dwarf Borlottis, but there seems to be a lot of mixing them up with climbers, by the seed suppliers *sigh*

What's the crack with cooking them? I intended to just pick them and use them as I would a broad bean.Comment

Are you eating them green or dried? If the former then yes, as broadies, if dried (they last all winter) then use as dried chick peas / red kidney beans etc and soak before boiling to kill the toxins.Originally posted by brownfingers View Post

i usually freeze my broadies, is it ok to do the same with borlottis.Comment

I have grown borlotties for the first time.After a shaky start they are producing well.Small new ones were great eaten like runners but after a rather tough picking I am now letting them mature and will eat them shelled,either young and green or dried when older.Hope I am not disappointed but any advice is welcome.
