Garden/Allotment

Feeling as though I am in the minority - growing veg. at home - I thought it would be interesting find out whether there are more people with allotments on here or growing from home

I grow from home, used to have an allotment but due to illness and distance, I had to give it up.

Also, the allotment passed an amendment that if The Society didn't like anyone they could kick them off for any reason...which I felt was awful.

I do both, veggies and some fruit at the alotment and fruit at home

We do both-everything on the allotment,and fruit trees and the odd spud or tom in tubs and herbs at home.

I just grow at home. I'm a veg virgin so taking things slowly. Maybe will have an allotment one day, you never know.

Definately just home, and think I will be at least until I retire (and that's a good 40 years away!). I never know where poeple squeeze there time in for allotments....

I work fulltime and have a little boy so my weekdays are taken up, and weekends are filled with housework etc and sorting the garden..

There must be some very organised people out there

I grow at home too - no allotments here in Shetland, although there are mutterings. I have 3/4 acre, only 1/4 acre useable due to wind, although I have not extended into much of the 1/4 acre yet (am an oldie so big digging into virgin ground has to be undertaken over a good length of time!)

Have just gone into semi-retirement (am now working part-time) and really looking forward to doing more in the plot. I too am amazed how many of you seem to be so organised to run an allotment - although I see in this month's mag (arrived this morning), that there is an article on a 20 minute allotment ? sounds good achieveable

I grow at home in my tiny garden. Sometimes I fancy a nice big allotment but then I worry that I wouldn't be able to manage it. Also I don't drive so would have to buy a bike or something to get there & as I'm not very good on them either I wouldn't fancy riding along trying to balance everything on the handlebars! Might end up leaving a trail of veggies along the road.

at home, but am lucky enough to have inherited a semi-walled kitchen garden. its not enormous, and has been neglected since we arrived here 7 years ago, but this is my year to make it work again!!

Just growing in the garden. Room is now getting tight. Might have to investigate growing vertically more. Doubt that I will ever get an allotment. I like to walk out of my back door and be in paradise.

Know what you mean Jax, tried an allotment but something was missing, I just couldn't potter and sit down at the kitchen table or just pop out and get some produce. All new housing should come with gardens at least 1/3 acre.

Growing at home in walled garden - veggies in four raised beds and greenhouse, tatties in buckets and other misc containers, two more areas to be turned over to the gyo area this year - soon be half the garden - no lotties up here either.Would love one but OH would never see me - mmm - maybe not such a bad thing ?

How big is the walled garden? Would love a walled garden....

...though the neighbours might not approve.

I just grow in the garden. I've got two raised beds, one new this year and a greenhouse. The greenhouse is on concrete too so everything has to go in pots, I use a lot of containers, I've got currants, gooseberries and rhubarb in pots. Last year I grew beans, french and runner and courgettes in pots and am going to do the same this year. I still managed to grow more than myself and OH could eat - the neighbours got numerous veg parcels. At the moment I've got broad beans and turnips started in part of the new bed, onions, garlic and radishes in the other, waiting for carrots to come up. In the greenhouse I've got two tubs of potatoes, beetroot, carrots and radishes as well as lettuce and rocket in trays. My windowsills are full of tomato, tomatillo and pepper seedlings - but its still too cold.
I would love an allotment but I don't even know where the closest ones are and then there's the time factor.
