  • Super excited :)

    Just picked my first cucumber

Really thought I was pushing my luck growing outdoor cucumbers up north but it was delicious! Nice crunchy juicy and a tang of sweetness, can't wait until the rest are done now

Don`t forget if you get a glut, quartered and saut`ed in butter for about 5 mins like the french do,goes well with a steak.

Thanks everyone 😃 still smiling about it.

Def trying again next year now. Bought these as plugs on an offer from the back if the magazine but got some seeds to try next season, hope I'm successful again 👍

I always think cucumbers from supermarkets are watery but never really thought anything of it. Won't be buying them again now though

Never thought of cooking them will give it a go if I manage to get any through the back door 😗

Think someone asked what cucs they were? They're grandale. Bought on an offer and could find no info on them other than they are French so I really was pushing my luck hoping to get some here in yorkshire. They definitely made up for my toasted cauli seedlings

Nice one Mumbles, lookout for Ridge cucs for next year to grow outdoors.

I forgot to add that most ridge cucs have tiny spikes on them, simply rub them off with your hand leaving a nice smooth knobbly cuc, the spikes are not sharp they just look it.

I do like marmite, another one to try if they get through the back door

Thanks BM think the ones I've got for next year are ridge ones but can't be certain

Congratulations Mumbles You can't beat a homegrown cukey.
I've just eaten 3 but they were quite small - cut into "fingers" and dipped in hummus.
As BM says, the spikes look intimidating but they rub off quite easily and painlessly.

I love homegrown cuc's, I haven't attempted any outdoor ones up in my neck of the woods as I don't know if they'd make it. Is there anyone further up North than me who has attempted outdoor cucumbers, successful or not?
