I planted my king ted maincrop 17 weeks ago and 18 weeks ago. Both put masses of foliage on and were very tall. Now, all the lower foliage has wilted and died off. (No, its not blight). The main stem is still healthy as is the upper foliage, which is wonderfully green and radiating well being. They all flowered some time ago and many have produced their little "tomatoes". Would they be ready for lifting do you think? Seems a bit early to me. Also, one or two spuds are showing on the surface, so will no doubt be green. I've covered them over with a good jolloping of soil, so will they return to an edible state?

Once the spuds are green, they stay that colour,i would use them first, but peel them to get rid of the green, the tops of my main crop have all but gone,i will start to get them up when the weather cools of,some leave them in the ground longer than others,my concern is,having no rain for such a long time,i do not want them sitting in wet ground as they will rot,in your case, dig one or two plants up,and see what you got, sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

If you still have green foliage I would leave them as the haulm is still doing its job. They really could do with about 22 weeks for best results.Potty by name Potty by nature.

You could save the green ones to re-plant next year. I have done it several times with good results.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
