Cucamelon/melothrie not setting fruit

I have a big pot in the lean-to with two cucamelons in, bought as plug plants. They're happily rambling everywhere, both nice big plants covered in flowers- both male and female, but I've had not a single fruit develop. The female flowers just drop off.

The door's open all the time, so there's generally quite a few insects in there, and I even tried hand pollinating a few flowers. Still nothing. Any ideas? I'm reduced to nibbling on the unpollinated female flowers to get a taste...

Mine did this for ages I thought they were a waste of time but then suddenly they started to catch on and I've got plenty of fruit coming along now!

Mine have slowly overtaken my greenhouse and have plenty of flowers both male and female. They seem to take an age but when I checked this morning it looks like fruit is developing. I just hope they taste nice!

I moved mine from the greenhouse to outside and within a week or so the fruit started to form, within about two weeks they were ready to eat.

Try taking them out of the blowaway completely and see what happens, they are much hardier then you'd think and the weather is nice enough that they shouldn't need hardening off.

If I grow them next year (they are nice, but not as mind blowing as I was expecting) they are going straight outside once they are about 6" tall.

I made a wigwam with a few canes then when they started going nuts I linked the 3 wigwams together with twine.
They hit the top of the wigwams (5') pretty quickly and since then I just let them do as they wish. As they have the height they aren't trailing along the floor too much.

be warned slugs and snails love them too ,up a wigwam is safer

All my early flowers fell off. Then suddenly those higher up developed fruit and now I have quite a crop. Thing is I don't really like then, They are crunchy but with a tang. Interesting but I probably wont grow next year. for those with better taste -go for it

I'm obviously undecided if I will grow next year as I have not tasted them yet. I did spend a good hour untangling one and clipping it to some trellis. I sort of enjoyed it lol and there are a lot of flowers and the start of fruit so we will see.
