  • garlic bolting shall I pull?

I planted my garlic a week before good Friday this year, the leaves has started to die back and one of them has got a seed pod on the top as if it has bolted. I pulled one up that I had stomped on by mistake and its fully formed just needs to fatten out....

When I grew garlic (which was never a huge success as the cloves were always a bit small) I always found there was a flower stem in the middle and the cloves formed around it. Others may be better at garlic than me and have a different experience - I got rid of it because it tended to drop mini cloves from the flower heads all over the garden which then grew in all the wrong places.

No Garlic expert but if it is a hard neck variety it is normal, just break it off. Sure someone will correct me if I am wrong

The little flower head is known as a scape and can be stir fried if you cut/break it off. It will draw energy from the plant and make for a smaller bulb if left so best to remove.
