    why does my beetroot grow lanky and the root not in the ground enough and they fall over etc. i have been sowing the seeds as deep as the packet suggested...

    If your ground is too hard, the beetroot will push itself out as it grows.
    I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

      does that mean poor quality/inedible/or still just fine beetroot\?

        It is not usually a problem. It is best for good leaf hygiene and pest control if you can get the plants to stay upright. I would add compost around them to a depth which will give them enough support to stand up. This normally works fine for me.
