  • Funnions.

This years onions seem a bit strange. They dont seem to have much root. I've left them in the ground as the tops haven't gone altogether yellow and wihthery. When I want some to use, I just pick on one which seems the most ready, but they come up really easily and are hardly anchored bt the roots at all. Last year my Sturon were really entrenched. This year, I've done Stutgarter and Red Baron. Is it just down to different variety? I did firm the soil a lot more this year after being told to by an old hand at onion growing. They have also been kept drier than last year at this stage of the procedings. Saying that, the onions are excellent, of good size, and the flavour is fine.

My red baron had less root than the sturon, which I am just starting to harvest. These are anchored really well, so I think it may be a variety thing.

Ditto here. Red Baron's came out really easily. I'd back the variety theory.
