The sky is very black over the Bristol channel, out towards Devon and getting darker here (Carmarthenshire). Its still hanging onto the rain but I've cleaned out my rainwater catchment filter ready for the deluge (if there is one!). I can sleep easier when I know there's plenty of water to flush the loos

The rain has arrived - huge spots, battering on the windows - heading north, I think!!

The latest runs are STILL not sure where Bertha is going to go... Latest buzz from TheWeatherOutlook, updated 09/08/2014 16:39:56

Some common sense analysis of the situation here: http://www.weatherweb.net/wxwebtv2.php - but he does use the dreaded words "sting jet".

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?

If you worried about it,you could try some straps over the top to help it,like peeps do on caravan awnings,if it's one of the green one's,the same only put very heavy things around the bottom/trench it into the ground,or remove the cover overnight, best of luck.

That 4pm shower was just a taste of things to come and didn't last long.
Now, the rain is so heavy I can't see across the river, in fact I can hardly see the houses opposite. Anyone out in this, will be very very wet

Stay safe VC,we still dry and warm here, the weather this year sure is a talking point, not like when we were younger,we had defined seasons back then, and knew roughly what to expect, the last few have been all over the place,

Welcome to the vine skeggijon. Being a Leicester lass, I'm guessing your location is Lincolnshire coast? Hope the PT stands up to the expected winds safely.

It's full moon tomorrow so with Bertha behind it, I should think the Severn bore will be pretty impressive.

Another interesting link, http://neige.meteociel.fr/satellite/anim_ir.gif showing the satellite images from the last couple of hours. Currently (8.30pm Saturday - I should perhaps point out that the satellite image is 1 hour later because it is French) the centre of Bertha is to the south of Ireland and you can see it generating cloud at quite a rate. Switch to the raintoday radar and you will see the most intense rainfall in this area. You can also see from this that the cloud currently encroaching on the bulk of England is really mainly high cloud with no rain, which shows up just as strongly on the satellite as the rain bearing clouds further south and west.
