I used Shakespeare from sets this last year and am well pleased with them. Sourced from Marshalls Search results for shakespeare- Marshalls Seeds but I expect others will have them. Previously I grew Senshyu Yellow a japanese variety which never let me down

Same as AP, Senshyu are a pretty safe bet. Have never had much luck with red ones.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Wilkinsons have their onion sets in stock - £2 for 50. I bought Japanese (presume Senshyu (weight 180 grs)) and Snowball (220 grs) They also had a red one, shallots and garlic.
Then I went to What!! - the cheap shop, where they were selling any 3 packs of flowering bulbs or onions for £5, instead of £2.49 each. I bought Senshyu, Radar and Electric and these packs were 350grs, almost twice as many as in Wilkos.
Now all I have to do is decide where to plant 400 onion sets
