My fella thinks a rat has done it. Could they do this?

I don't think it is coz there is no way of getting in

Well a rat can dislocate its joints to squeeze through holes much smaller than its body appears to be. I've had one go under a closed house door so one could have got in.

I don't know if I buy the idea that the damage that your photo seems to show came from a rat though. Are there any droppings? Rodents often run close to walls and leave a small path in their wake after a few weeks (a bit like a sheep path but smaller) so have a good look round. Also, items like windfall apples will appear in sheds or other places the rat takes them to eat in safety. They love compost bins and heaps where they leave tunnels in the warm compost.

What I'm trying to say is there are many other signs of a rat's presence than one damaged cauliflower!
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
          Leave Rotten Fruit.
          Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
          Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!
Il n'est si méchant pot qui ne trouve son couvercle.

No nothing. So it's not a rat.

It's looking more like a cabbage to me....

Either way, brassicas do better outside and not in greenhouses.......

Thanks RT. I'm still learning to. Never really had any success when growing. This is my 1st year nothing had died or gone wrong on me.
