after hearing heligan uses seaweed as an overwinter mulch i picked up 2 sacks of kelp after recent storms. question is can lay it direct onto the soil or would it have to weather a while to rid it of the salt?

I pick it up on the beach and it goes straight on the garden or 6ins deep of seaweed in the bottom of my tattie tubs and they then taste like jerseys(depending what type you grow) and I don't put any other fertiliser on the ground, just bury the compost heap in the autumn under the planned beans site...Comment

I know it's great stuff but I always worry about whose habitat is being affected/destroyed even when it's the washed up stuff from the beach that's being used. Please don't take the whole beach worth."A life lived in fear is a life half lived."
