  • Advice on how to freeze sweet corn kernals

I have several plants ready to harvest but do not want to freeze them whole, instead I would like to freeze the kernels. I've tried a search on here but cannot find what I am looking for. Happy to be given a link or advice.

    Thank you in advance

      Thanks Bren.

After posting here I finally found a suitable version of how to remove the kernels (I don't like the cut the kernels off version) see link How to peel Sweet Corn fast and easy - YouTube and decided on not blanching. The removal method worked incredibly well.

I watched the clip but couldn't understand a bladdy word she said!!!! It also looks a bit dangerous to me.

I didn't blanch mine last year and they were superb, the key is to do it quickly, within a couple of hours.

We just used to put the whole cob, leaves and all into a freezer bag and freeze them!

OK, you still have them on the cob, but it works, plus you have the added bonus of sweet cobs to eat later in the year...or cut them off if you prefer!

It's such a busy time of year trying to preserve stuff, that it was worth us trying it...and it worked really well.
And yes, it DOES take up a lot more space.

Oh...I wish I'd read this thread about 2 hours ago. I've just finished blanching and cutting all the kernel off to put in the freezer. I'm defo going to try this method for the next batch.

I don't understand how you people manage to get sweetcorn into the freezer.

I simmered a panful of cobs last night, and we (me, the dogs & the African Grey) ate them all while watching The Honourable Woman

I freeze three cobs whole but cut them in half - trying to make them last longer... Doesn't really work as they're so bloomin nice and such a fast, easy and healthy snack
