Echalions, I think I've made 2 boo boo's

I wanted to grow some Echalions, so I purchased some to plant, thinking they were like shallots in their growing habits.(boo boo 1)
They all bolted and I did not understand why, so I removed the seed heads and threw the heads in a compost bin. (boo boo 2)
I have been using the Echalions for a few weeks now'
No one anywhere, suggested that they are grown from seedand not the actual bulb---even though they did reproduce from both ends but even the offspring bolted.
Ah well, there's always next year-I should have plenty of seedlings

Were they Banana shallots - as sold in the supermarkets?
Couldn't even get mine to grow, let alone bolt

Banana shallots can only be grown for seed. The seed then produces only one bulb, they do not split like normal shallots.

They split into 4 evenly sized bananas from one, they also threw out seed heads, so I am wondering what they are,
Further investigation is called for.
Just rescued 1 seed head from compost bins, but seed is nowhere near ready to do anything.
Purchased from either ainsburys or may have been fasdas.
Bananas are Very tasty either raw or lightly cooked.
