Just starting

Hello all

I have just acquired my first allotment, it is very overgrown and I am in the process of ripping everything out, carefully of course.
The guys and girls on the site have given me loads of advice already, but I enjoy forums, mainly footballones mind, so any aadvice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on what the plot's overgrown with, and whether you want to grow anything over the winter, you might want to so some cardboard / black plastic covering to get the ground nice and clear.

As others have stated - take loads of pictures now, when it's in its worst state (it may give you some motivation / enthusiasm during the hard times.

It's a great time to take over a new plot, however be prepared for a lot of hard graft, blood, sweat and tears - and try and get as much of a "blank canvas" as you can in preparation for next year.

The sad part of me found planning the layout of my plot one of the most enjoyable - and after 4-5 years later, I'm still doing it.

Cheers for the welcome everyone, pics from my phone, hope this works, I have more onthe Mrs phone of the work I have done on it already will post them up when she gets in, the polytunnel came with the plot, needs a bit of patchwork here and there but I am happy with it all

Sorry I haven't been back in a while, so an update as to what it looks like now

great progress so well done and a welcome to the forum from me as well. As you can see, the inside of the tunnel is already very dry. maybe think about watering that quite heavily and covering with black polythene to save further moisture loss over the winter months.
