  • aubergine flowers falling off

im not a novice veg grower but havent grown aubergines before. i hadnt actually planned to either as i dont like them but i saw them for 99p at the garden centre so i got some to grow for my mum. they have grown well and iv potted them on and been feeding them etc but 2 of the flowers have fallen off stem and all so i know there wont be any fruit where they were. not sure why. iv been putting them outside during the day while its been warm so i know bees can get to them.

You've been doing all the right things Leona, but bear in mind that they are notoriously hard things to crop in the UK. You tend to find only a few of the flowers yield fruit. I wish you the best of luck

they are in the conservatory all the time with the door open unless its really warm outside so i know they are getting enough heat.

They do lose a few flowers and its quite early yet. Ours in the greenhouse have just started to flower/get flower buds. They do like it very hot (and with humidity) mind. Plenty of time yet though.

My aubergines - Baby belle - have been flowering wonderfully for about a month. Loads of flowers. Two are in the greenhouse and two are on the windowsill. Every day I run my fingers round the flowers - no visible pollen there - and mist them over. Every day they chuck away the flowers with no sign of any aubergines forming. Can't think of anything else I can do. Never had any success with them before, but this year they have been very well looked after. If no success this year, I'm giving up on them as a no can do.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I've had this problem several years and then one year (for no apparent reason) they fruited very well with no effort what so ever. The climate didn't seem different or anything so maybe just cross your fingers. Mine aren't flowering yet so don't have this problem!!!!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
