Charlotte gets my vote too, i tried several varieties in bags this year and they were my favourite, best tasting, so much so I've got some on the go for Christmas!!

We like Charlotte too (2nd early) and also grow Arran Pilot for 1st early, and Pink Fir Apple as a main crop / salad (although it grows quickly enough that we harvest during the summer for BBQs rather than waiting and harvesting like a main crop. I grow just a few Rocket too for the earliest earlies, but we don't rate the taste of them, so they are just to fill a week or so until the Arran Pilot are ready.

I think it is personal preference though, and quite a lot may come down to soil and husbandry. So I think perhaps the best way is to buy some seed potatoes from local garden centre, where they are sold loose, so that folk can try just 3 or 5 of each, and then have a cook & tasting session to see what they like best. So few varieties sold in supermarkets compared to what one can grow oneself, the opportunity to find a variety that one really likes.

We grew Anya alongside Pink Fir Apple this year, its billed as a better-PFA and less knobbly for preparation in the kitchen, but the rest of the family didn't like them as much, so that's off the list for future years! but I expect there are others who will say they far prefer Anya to PFA
