Sweet corn

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, I have corn still in the garden with the ends already brown which I thought was a sign to be picked however i opened one up and the kernels are still white does this mean its still not ready??

How far down the cob did you inspect? The ones at the very tip are likely to remain white ...

Pressing a corn with a finger nail should release some milky-like fluid, when they are ripe, but they ought to be fairly yellow (to the eye)

I snapped it off the plant and inspected the whole corn and it was all white!

Ah! Doesn't sound like it was ripe, or perhaps it hasn't pollinated - were all the "corns" tiny?

I would say they are the same size as normal kernels but just not yellow and a tad wrinkly!

Sounds OK then If you press a corn with your finger nail and the juice is milky then Cook It !!

Don't know the variety, but if you have enough it might be worth cooking one just to see? I've occasionally had corn which stays quite pale in its leaves, but then yellows up after it's cooked. Wrinkly sounds a bit as though it might be getting past its best, so I'd try now just in case!
