Snow Ball Onions

Hi All

anyone grow Snow Ball Onions? Been looking through the seed catalogues and am intrigued by these.

I know they are autumn planted sets but should I start them in modules or straight out?

Finally are they worth growing?

I've not tried them but for £2 was willing to take the chance. All my autumn planted sets go straight in the ground.

I've bought a bag from Wilko's too. They're in seed trays under netting on the "trampoline" table. No idea what they're like to grow or eat

Last year, I planted them out in spring - at the same time as the spring sets. I've no idea whether this is the right time but it seemed to work

are they worth growing?

I got one this year, my school harvested maybe half a dozen (that's out of a packet of about 50 sets)

I've tried them several years and they never have come to anything

I bought these 2 years ago , this time of year, and over wintered . They did ok but didn't store very well although in fairness we had a wet autumn and they were hard to dry

Not my favourite either, as i find them more susceptible to mould than the yellower types
