I've had a brilliant tomato crop, in fact, they are still cropping nicely. One strange thing though, and it applies to all varieties I've grown, They all have quite thick skins. Any clues as to why?

Not sure, but it could be partly variety related. Thick skins are just about my only gripe with Shirley, but I just skin them before using. Sungold can be slightly tough skinned, but the Chocolate Cherry grown right next to the Sungold are very thin skinned.

Are you growing inside or out? When I used to grow them outside I found the skins much thicker than the same varieties under cover.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Those grown inside and outside are all the same. I've had a goodly amount of splitters too.Comment

its down to night temperatures, I grew some indigo rose outside and one inside, the inside one was fine, the outside ones I could have used for shoe leathers, or played golf using them they were so tough on the outside..... next year will be all inside..(we had one or two frosty nights in august)Comment
