Sweetcorn but very disappointed

My first year of owning an allotment (4 months in) and I planted sweetcorn - 2 separate patches. First patch was harvested and WOW it was literally gorgeous. Second patch is now looking amazing but on trying it, it is hard, dry and not good. So can I leave it in and dry it longer to make popping corn so at least I get something and also the kids have allotment speciality?

I still have corn with tassles yet to go brown. Just keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have a cold snap.

I find you need to keep the late cropping ones fairly moist. If they get too dry the kernals won't swell

I grew a complete raised bed of sweetcorn. 85% ish was lovely but the last few are rather tough and
Some nibs sunken in. I watered in dry weather. I think it may be the drop in temperature. (My theory entirely!) my cucumber skins have toughened too.
There's one of our seasoned plot holders with about 50 big untouched cobs going over on his lotty. Such a shame. I've seen him down there but you never know people's problems.

I grow 4 Sundance per 50 ltr pot. It's a great variety, really sweet and early maturing. I pack the pots with chicken poo, slow release miracle grow pearls, with 50% B&Q Verve and gunge from my hotbin composter. They go mad!
