Drying herbs such as basil and purple coloured [ excuse my ignorance] basil

H I can anyone help in the matter of drying herbs such as basil and purple coloured basil as i would like to save some, and can you even dry them as i am not sure
and some have little flowers on them are they suitable for drying

You can dry them but they loose a lot of flavour. I find that the best way to preserve herbs is to chop them finely, put them in ice cube trays and cover with a little bit of water. Once frozen you can pop them into freezer bags and take out what you need. They make your kitchen smell of warm summer days on a dank February day.

i pick the leaves, drop them in small paper bags (clearly labelled!!) and leave them to dry, then crush them up and put them in a jar
i used to hang the paper bags on a piece of string in the kitchen

I have read that you can store chopped basil leaves in ice cube trays, but use olive oil instead of water, add it at the end to any cooking

I'm not keen on dried basil personally. I have sometimes managed to keep basil growing indoors year round on a windowsill if I repeat sow, but didn't sow seeds for replacement plants this summer and they're looking a bit woody now, so have taken cuttings to root in water.
