  • Protecting cucumbers

I have a rather lovely cuc growing (about 4 inches long now) that is touching the floor.

I am terribly paranoid that a slug, or some other beastie, may eat it before I do!

Is there anything I can use to either raise it off the ground or protect it?

    Cheers

Put it on a bit of tile if you have one OWG. You can usually scrounge bits from people haveing kitchens or bathrooms renovated.

Aha, we have spare tiles and bricks etc, I'll go straight to my greenhouse after work and prop them up with bits of tile!

        Thanks guys!

          Hi OWG,

I am rather an impatience lady, I would rather harvest my first baby first before those slugs do... this way I will be 100 % sure ( but don't do it if you are patience ). And the seconde one will be a bit higher above the ground, it will be in a way easier to wait for...

It's not quite big enough yet - I'd usually buy a half-cuc from the veg shop, so was going to wait until it was about that size!

I suspect that it will be picked at the weekend however, for salad!

How about trying a stocking? It would stretch with the growing fruit and put off the nasties.
