The whitefly seem really bad on all the brassicas this year, have sprayed them a bit, but hasn't helped,is there anything that works? And do they actually do much damage?

Whitefly is the main reason I use micromesh over my kale and cabbage. Caterpillars I can pick off, but I hate having to try and shake off clouds of whitefly, and I always end up bringing some into the house, but they can't get through micromesh. My kale is bug-free this year
Lacewing and ladybird larvae will eat whitefly. Spraying, of course will kill these off, but a lot of whitefly strains are apparently getting resistant to some pesticides, so you may kill off the good bugs while not touching the bad ones.
Some folk recommend running the vacuum over your brassicas, which will catch larvae and adult flies, but I don't know how you empty the vacuum without releasing them all again!
Garlic is also supposed to work quite well, either growing it among the brassicas, and/or spraying it on the plants.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

I don't really have a whitefly problem at home, but when we had the lottie it was a nightmare. Even the winter where the snow was 3 foot deep and the temps dropped to -18c, they still survived. I remember having the chop down frozen cabbages and sprouts for xmas and they were alive with whitefly.
I did hear that soapy water spayed on the plants helps.
