Problem with Parsnips

Hello again,

I haven't been able to get down to the allotment for about 10 days and popped in this morning before work. Mostly everything is fine, but the foliage on my parsnips has gone brown and dry What has happened and why? The ground is pretty dry, we haven't had much rain in ages.

Will the parsnips still be OK if I leave them? I was hoping to just pick a few at a time and eat them gradually as I'm the only one in my family who likes them.

So has mine it's normal. It dies back completely but the parsnips are fine in the ground for 6 or 7 months

Although you do have to remember where the parsnips are now that they're not marked by the foliage, if you want to dig them up individually rather than as a crop

Every year I swear I'll mark them, every year I hunt them down hoping not to put the fork through a good one....

Every year I swear I'll mark them, every year I hunt them down hoping not to put the fork through a good one....

Mine seem to maintain a "tuft" of growth in the winter, which enables me to find them. DO other folk find that there is absolutely no top at all then?

Mine always seem to keep a little something 'up top'

I dig mine up or they get slugged. I honestly don't find that letting them get frosted helps the flavour (varTender and True).
