Anyone know why my augergine fruits have a yellow skin rather than purple or stipey purple - even on the same plant. The fruits arn't rotting and this is a problem with several different varieties.
Any help appreciated
Hi firesprite and catgirl. You probably just didn't pick your aubergines soon enough. They go yellow when they ripen, but it's best to eat them before that stage. Usually people only leave them on the plant to go yellow if they want to save the seeds from them.
Thanks Zelenia - its was odd because they fdidn't go purple or sptripey in the first place they simply grew as bright yell fruits. They are still firm and ot at all soft.
I noticed a similar thread but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer
Interesting. I grew pinstripes this year and the ones I picked promptly were brightly coloured white and purple, but the one or two I left on the plant went a creamy colour and were full of seeds - pretty inedible really. Thank you Zelenina for confirming that's what's meant to happen!
