  • Over winter

    Hello all I'm just wondering which of these veg will need protection over winter

    Meteor pea
    Perpetual spinach
    Pixie cabbage
    Winter white Lisbon spring onion
    Shop bought shallots
    Cavelo de Nero kale

    I've got hoop cloches just not sure if I should be using them tbh id rather not if I can avoid it

    IMO If it get's really cold, the peas and Spring onions could need some protection.... the rest should be ok.

        Although pigeons may well eat the kale

              Some will over winter and are sufficiently hardy but loads are not. M favourites can't be planted until spring but I'd like to hope that garden centres aren't selling spring planting ones yet so you should be OK. Where did you get them from, that may help with identification?

                Yep - same here. If it's not netted the flying rats will eat it.

                And as a PS, sparrows will eat the leaves on the peas and perpetual spinach too where I am. And something winged likes nothing more than pulling out shallots. My plot has a thick hedge along one border and I would swear the beggars sit in it waiting for me to turn my back.
