They are then thinned out to just 2 plants which are broken apart when planted out.
I wonder if separating them sets them back at all? I wonder worth doing an experiement with a few thinned in module to Singles and planting out half and half to see how they compare?
Maybe, at the least , the non-split ones will come on a bit more quickly and spread the harvest? In that case maybe sowing once a month, some singles, some doubles & split on planting, would stagger the whole harvest over a month? Wishful Thinking??!!
When I used to sow lettuce direct in my back garden, when doing the thinning from about 3 inches to 6 inches, I would transplant every other one into a new row. These matured a week or two later on average than the non-transplanted ones. Same principle, I guess.
