i started most of mine off in jan in the spare room. i turned the plants every night but i still thought they would get too spindly to amount to anything. iv been amazed how well theyv done. they are very strong plants all over waist height now. in big pots on the patio at the moment. i was bringin them in if it went below 10 degrees at night. my first tom (cherry snow white) will be ready in a couple of days. iv got several varieties so hopefully wont have a glut of one kind. mind you, iv got about 20 plants so im bound to have more thn i can eat still!

Stacey, I will try to help with your query.

You have a main stem up the middle and leaves and flower trusses grow off that. At the point where the leaf is attached to the main stem, you will often find another 'main stem' growing - this is a side shoot. It should be pinched out (only on certain types - those described as 'cordon) when small but I sometimes leave them get to slim pencil stage and then nip them out and pot them up for extra plants. What toms are you growing? Some of them are supposed to be left bushy anyway

        Hope that helps.
