What does 'poncey' even mean? And flowers are weeds? A waste of space? Ugh?
We're all entitled to our own preferences but can I politely ask that we are careful with our words when stating our dislikes?

We have decided to put over quite a few tubs in the front garden to rainbow chard next year.
It'll save a fortune on buying pretty plants/flowers as well as being edible!

I have to say it would be nice to have an allotment/vegetable growing programme on tv. Years back - pre masterchef, Greg Wallace used to host a brilliant programme where he and another presenter (I forget who) used to visit a different allotment around the country each week.
Surely a veg growing show would help encourage more people to grow their own.

If were planning a TV show I would call it "Fork to Fork". It would be a filmed over a year on a standard size allotment somewhere up north and could start off showing how to prepare the soil, select and sow the seeds, planting out, soil care whilst growing, then harvesting and finally cooking ideas.
Each week they could show one crop as it came into season from Fork to Fork.

Here are some of the veg type programmes (well series!) us edible plant growers have had over the years:-

                The big dig - 2007?
Grow your own veg - with Carol Klein 2007
The Victorian Kitchen garden (originally 1987 but re-shown in 2009)
Grow your own drugs - with James Wong (2010)
The edible garden - with Alys Fowler (2010)
                Allotment wars (2013)
                The Allotment challenge (2014)

I am sure peeps will remember others, but it goes to show that veggie people are thought of. I can't imagine gardeners getting upset and saying why do they do these programmes with poncey veg.

The title of this thread reminds me of our old Black & White TV, that always had some ghastly ornament on top of it (something we kids had given my Mum as a present). On the wall above the TV there was a set of flying birds - that I'd made from Plaster of Paris in squidgy rubber moulds and hand painted in the most garish and unnatural colours you can think of
There were no veggies or flowers on the TV then

Saw both of those, neither was about veg growing . The first was supposedly about conflict on lottie sites and will have put people off if they think that's what it's like. The second one involved people being given perfectly prepared plots then showed very little info about growing. It was then a stupid competition about perfect looking specimens and flower arranging. The only connection with taste came via preserves and goodness only knows how they were supposed to have established fruit bushes after one season. Again, a terrible programme which imparted minimal information to anybody who wanted to grow for the table - a chance missed.

Didn't see to series (don't remember their being one) but the exhibition was excellent.

My favourite program had Geoff Hamilton in it.
His hints and tips were inspirational.

Like many people I don't have a garden the size of a country mansion.

So the programs telling me how to make a large pond or create a huge flower border are of no use to me and probably apply to about 1% of the population.

Also don't Veg seed sales far outweigh flower seeds ?

I purposely sought out Geoff Hamiltons Ornamental Kitchen Garden book.He was a great advocate of mixing flowers, shrubs, trees and vegetables all together to give a holistic approach to gardening. No poncyness there though.
If you have a look in seed catalogues, the biggest section is devoted to non vegetables. I would think that flower seed sales would far outweigh veggie seed sales judging by the space devoted to them?
