  • Saving seed?

Sorry i will become a pain in the ass, i have quite few things to ask and have no-one else to ask…..sorry

This is the first year i am trying to save seed (apart from a few herbs), it all looks wonderful and just like when you buy seed. BUT

I am lucky enough to grow year round and want to grow from some of the seed i have only saved this week, i have done the proper ferment process, but do not know if it needs time or i can plant out now (into cells). either dried out or still wet from being washed, i have searched the net but can't find anything.

Oh it is tomatoes and cucamelon

    Thanks
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

      Hi Lisa,

I can tell you that tomato seeds are absolutely fine to be planted fresh! You can take them from a salad and pop them straight in the ground and they will grow. I don't know about comparable germination rates between fresh and dried but I would imagine that fresh have a higher germination rate. They don't need a cold spell or frosts to fool the seed as they are warm climate plants.

As for cucamelon. I have no idea! I suspect that, as it is also a sub tropical plant, it would also grow well from fresh seed. But don't quote me on that!
