Sork bulbs - do they work against moles? Are they the same as allium moly?

I'm researching for a friend who has a mole problem but doesn't want to kill them.. he says his traps don't work, and is thinking about bulbs. I've read all sorts of reviews about all sorts of different deterrents, some of them hilariously dangerous-sounding, but I've still to be convinced any of them really works... Can anyone help please?
