Picked my last chilli's and sweet peppers

Just hope they will ripen a bit more. Before they get dried. The ones in the glass dish are ripe, they didn't want to miss out on the photo. The ones on the black tray are the ridiculously hot ones . The plant is my very lucky black naga. The one and only chilli I'm going to try and over winter

I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

        Dug up a celeriac today.
Despite them being in the ground for the last 6 months they are still very small.
Most disappointed, they look so healthy from the lovely green leaves but very small root system.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I picked the two raised beds with carrots in on Saturday, four bucketfuls, and now over 100 prepared, blanched, meal sized portions gone into the "coffin" freezer,( its now two overflowing carrier bags), we picked the last raspberries yesterday and they went on top of the pudding....lovely, tomorrow I will start the onion seeds off as shallots were a complete waste of time, so its back to reliable onions..

Now we have all expressed our sorrow at pulling our 'last' whatever, let's celebrate the sheer joy of having seasonal vegetables. There is nothing quite like looking forward to the FIRST French bean or courgette of the new year, or even to picking the first few sprouts of the winter (which I've just done). And in the winter months, having the first few leaves of 'mache' or lambs' lettuce, let alone a spring cabbage, is delightful.

I can't understand those people who buy out of season vegetables like those rubbery French beans from Kenya or asparagus in December! I am now looking forward to having no more courgettes, beans, tomatoes, aubergines and peppers until next summer, when they will be appreciated all the more after a break!

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
                Pumpkin pi.

Cooked the last of the stored Sarpo Mira potatoes for the freezer - they had been stored in a bucket with a paper bag over, and were starting to look like they were going to turn green. I am experimenting with various ways of storing potatoes - so far putting them in a potato grow bag covered with a bit of dry compost seems to work best.

I can start on the Desiree now (stored in their original compost and potato bags at the moment).

Also probably the last of the red cabbages - the 2 remaining ones have not formed hearts and probably won't. I think trying to grow 5 of these in one 18 inch square pot was asking slightly too much, but the 3 I have cut weighed about 9oz each, which is quite big enough for me!

all of ours that can be frozen/preserved have been saved including over 30 bags of mixed peppers/chillies and just about all that we grew will be keeping us going til the next crop...

I'm STILL getting globe artichokes! Every time I go down the plot there are two or three more. Not very big but still very tasty.

Began clearing out the GH at the weekend; found two Bella F1 cucumbers lurking in a corner. Good size and still firm, but they'd started to discolour ever so slightly. Took them indoors and cut them open, revealing middles that had become mushy, so back outside and into the compost pile with them.
Still picking chillies and runner beans, though very sporadically now.
