I reckon - for what it's woth - that the cuc will be ok, but as soon as I'd spotted TRex having a tinkle (after chasing him and swearing a great deal!) I'd bung half a watering can on (as if it's not wet enough already!) to dilute the wee.

Packed full of nitrogen, anyway, so as long as it is not strong enough to 'burn' I'd say you'd be ok!

Chased him with the 'jet' setting on the hose!!! Little so and so.

Did Diddlydoos ever get an answer to her yellow cucumber problem? Because mine are suddenly growing yellow now.... The first few were standard green - I used a few, gave a few away etc - since when they've been bright yellow. I assume it's some deficiency in the soil mix (they're in large pots in an unheated greenhouse alongside tomatoes). Until I read this thread I've been feeding them tomato food (that's partly why they're placed where they are but I won't do that next year although I've done it for years without this odd effect). Then I thought maybe I'd planted some unusual variety (didn't mean to, it's not what it said on the tin I haven't tasted them - don't fancy 'em! - but have been feeding them to the wormery, they seem less choosy. How do I solve this one, green paint?

          Hi Bazzaboy,

Sorry about your cucumber. I am new in cucumber growing so can't say much about it. But It has been raining non stop the soil must have been pretty wet and with humid air it could be rot at the grown level , it could also be nutrient depletions of the ground ( wash away by rain ). Here is an web site about cucumber problems, check it out and see if any of your cucumbers problems match.

hi momol - thanx for info - what a useful site, quite technical but covers a lot. When you read how many pests and diseases threaten the humble cucumber you realise how fragile life is, don't you? Cripes, that's probably why it wants to be a banana, thinks the grass is greener (ha!) on t'other side. If I knew quite how to do it I'd put a pic up of this latest cuc as to all intents and purposes it clearly thinks it's a banana. Armed with a printout I went to inspect the plants - found no obvious reason but I did find the next, probably last, generation just begining to grow and they're green again, well they are at the moment, I'll let them continue (if the weather warms up, today they must think winter's approaching!) and see what happens.
            Thanks... bb.

              Hi Bazzaboy,

I know what you mean it does cripes. I guess it is part of the jungle rule " no pain no gain & the strongest will survive ". Take it as challenge and remember we are learning, and if everything still fail dispite everything we have done, we can always get them at the supermarket and try to do better next year. Don't give up hope on them yet, they are trying to be a real cucumber .
              Happy gardening,
